Mission and charitable giving

Mission partners

Mission Partners Richard and Sue Kellow with their small daughter Emily, who have a home in Comberton, are currently working for the Church Mission Society . Until recently they were based in Rwanda, where Richard taught English at Rwanda Christian University. Sue was  involved in the local Mothers Union tailoring and craft project, a tots singing group which meets in people’s houses, and the Sunday school at their local church.  St Mary’s is one of several churches supporting them financially and through prayer.

Special collections

The collections taken at various services during the year are given to charity. In 2009 £117 was collected at the Christingle Service and sent to the Children’s Society. £146 was collected at the Carol Service and divided equally between two local charities, Jimmy’s Night Shelter and Emmaus Cambridge, for their work with the homeless.

Operation Christmas Child

For the past few years we have supported the annual shoebox appeal run by Operation Christmas Child. This year again we were able to send some boxes to the depot.

Alternative Christmas gifts

In addition a collection for Alternative Christmas Gifts together with gift aid on the donations, raised £350 for water pumps to provide clean drinking water for two villages (of 250 people each) in the developing world.
